5 Tips for the best sleep ever

Tips for good sleep

Tired during the day? Your eyes don’t ever seem to close at night? Is getting out of bed the biggest challenge of your day? Read a few tips to sleep better here.

Stop caffeine!

You probably like to drink a cup of coffee or tea in the afternoon once in a while. Both of them however contain stimulating substances like caffeine. It’s recommended not to drink any more tea after 4 o’ clock. And actually, drinking coffee should be avoided after lunch!

Drink your nightcap during (or right after) diner

Some of us like to drink an alcoholic beverage to get to sleep in better. While this can help, it can make a big part of your sleep ‘restless’. That’s why it’s better to drink in moderation, and not too late. Definitely not right before going to sleep!

Choose the right foodtips for sleeping

It’s definitely important not to eat any heavy meals in the evening. But there is also food that can help you sleep in better.

An example?  A light whole pasta dish, with fresh vegetables, some tomato sauce and some chicken, contains proteins and tryptophan. Tryptophan is an amino acid that converts to sleep-promoting serotonin in your body.

Choose the right lighting

Intense, bright lighting gives your body the feeling that it’s the middle of the day, while dimmed or weak lighting is the sign for your biological clock that night is coming and it’s time to unwind. Make sure you use lamps that don’t lighten up too brightly!

Track and check your sleep

Smartphone users can also track, check and improve their sleep thanks to a number of apps and devices. These devices can soothingly wake you up at the best moment of your sleeping cycle.
An example is ‘Withings Aura’ for Iphone users and soon available for Android users.
